Title: Straight-Edge: What It Is And What It Isn't
Details: Words: 1014, Pages: 4... has occurred just recently. It
is commonly believed that it was started nearly two decades ago in the
1980-1983 era by the hardcore-punk band called Minor Threat. The song
"Straight-Edge" written by Ian MacKaye, the band's singer, not only coined
the phrase, but it encompassed all of the philosophies that a straight-edge
person believes in. There have been theories that an earlier punk band,
called the Teen Idols (which included Ian MacKaye and the drummer from
Minor Threat*), started the ideology of straight-edge, but the term was not
used until MacKaye wrote and published the song. Minor Threat have since
disbanded, but hardcore fans everywhere still fol ...

Title: What Is Wealth

emperors, exert an influence on mankind."
I believe that if one chooses to enrich their mind and strive for
knowledge that they are truly wealthy. Wealth is the ability to enrich and
influence. With knowledge one can do these things. Wealth is not taking
things for granted. In many ways knowledge can help you achieve success. With
knowledge one can look into the past and see the mistakes that others have made.
The person with knowledge will not repeat these mistakes. Knowledge can help
one make the right choices in life. If one can make the right choices in life
and live a good life then they can truly have wealth.
Wealth is not the a ...

Title: Women's Freedom And Control
Details: Words: 481, Pages: 2... of the families, therefore, they were there to act as slaves and keep the men happy.
After many years, women finally gained a little freedom and control when the government was first developed in 1776. After learning only how to cook and clean in the home by their mothers, the young girls began to attend school and learned how to use the proper English and mathematics skills. This gave more women a greater opportunity and to have an open mind in the public.
Today women have many rights and a very wide range of freedom. They can go anywhere and do almost anything, except the things that are illegal. Women are now equal to everyone because of the Bill of Righ ...

Title: The Wild Life: Single And Married Couples
Details: Words: 758, Pages: 3... of single
people and that of married people that make it unmistakably difficult to
remain close friends. Single people live in a world of spontaneity, filled
with chaos. Everything is up in the air. They have no idea what day it is
much less if they have plans for the next weekend. Married people operate
on plans. They have such a full life a schedule is necessary to fit
everything in. A couple of weeks ago I ran into an old friend, an old yet
single friend. We talked for a while, reminiscing about high school and
past boyfriends, and decided we had to get together some time soon. She
and I tried to set a lunch date, or even a dinner date. After I offered ...

Title: Importance Of Priority In Today's Society
Details: Words: 534, Pages: 2... mayhem, disturbance, turmoil, pandemonium, uproar. Is this what
we want in our world today? Although people are afraid to say it, it is obvious
that if we all do not think before we do things, these events that I described
could occur in the near future.
Many people are in belief that chaos, mayhem, and even anarchy will not
occur in their lifetimes. And most possibly what they think is true, but they
don't show helpfulness towards they younger generations. By making a large
pothole, it may be very difficult to fill it. By ruining the world today, it
seems as if we are striving to mayhem. In our society we are not working to
help other people and ...

Title: Working Mothers

Government statistics state, “ work is a man and woman’s world.”
In a survey it states that most men and women agree both sexes should have
equal working opportunities. Also that the men accept their new duties and
responsibilities at work and home. Increased gender equity has enriched
both sexes. Today’s women are entitled to be apart of the life their
mothers had to fight to live. Jennifer Wedberg states, “Life is more
complex now, you have to figure out what to do with your life, be a
housewife or a working woman.” A woman’s personal identity includes a job
or career. According to Christopher Moeller, “More people should v ...

Title: Gangs

it all sound glamorous. Money is also an crucial factor. A kid (a 6-10
year old, who is not yet a member) is shown that s/he could make $200 to
$400 for small part time gang jobs. Although these are important factors
they are not strong enough to make kids do things that are strongly against
their morals.
One of the ways that kids morals are bent so that gang violence
becomes more acceptable is the influence of television and movies. The
average child spends more time at a TV than she/he spends in a classroom.
Since nobody can completely turn off their minds, kids must be learning
something while watching the TV. Very few hours of t ...

Any abuse which results in a sever injury requiring prompt medical attention,
that could be life threatening, that could cause mental and/or physical
impairment, could cause disfigurement, or chronic pain is too classified as
physical child abuse. Another form of physical abuse is any knowing or willful
mistreatment which in the opinion of a licensed medical doctor causes great

condition; this may include physical injury sustained as a result of abuse or
conditions which result from a parent's willful failure to act to stop this from

Title: Life Is But A Choice
Details: Words: 654, Pages: 3... radios, books, magazines, and
what we observe personally. The world is filled with a vast amount of
information and each individual is responsible for obtaining, understanding, and
making value judgments on this information. One must understand the world around
him before he can understand himself. Making the choice of obtaining a college
education is extremely important in the world today. There are so many
different areas which ro choose. Each individual must find where his/her
interest lay whether it be janitorial services or a rocket scientist. However,
some people choose not to go to college and still lead a happy, fulfilled life.

Title: Sexual Harrassment In The Military
Details: Words: 683, Pages: 3... and going to war are a man's work, men from minority groups have often been accepted more readily in the military than the women. Women have been viewed as outsiders in a male environment. Discrimination and harassment occurs for women because we are entering an all male dominated area. Some areas are still restricted because of it. For example: serving in direct combat capacities such as armor, infantry, and special forces-branches from which much of the senior leadership is drawn. "In 1994, the annual Navywide Personnel Survey included questions on women's role for the first time. Some 65 percent of officers and almost 50 percent of enlisted respondents s ...
